The Family House

Functional Family Home!

The challenge for the Box™ design team was to create a functional family home that did justice to the beautiful site and fitted in with the up-market neighbouring homes – but at a sensible price.

We’re really happy with how the design turned out and shows what can be fitted in to a modest footprint.

The house is made up of 2 blocks. A single-storey family area with large covered deck to the front, and a two storey block which contains the bedrooms and bathrooms, with the master bedroom ‘studio’ on top taking in the expansive views. A garage has been designed at the rear, which fits perfectly with the house design and can be built at a later date.

The ‘flat’ roofs interestingly are quite conventional truss roofs with a parapet and an internal gutter over the deck area. This feature gives owners peace of mind when wanting the flat-roof look without the risk of blocked internal gutters and potential leaks.

As with most properties, the slope presents a challenge when trying to link the indoors with the outdoors. In this case, the covered deck off the family room is the perfect transition space and connects the house perfectly to the kids’ lawn.
